welcome to the durrant house hotel

The Durrant House Hotel in Devon is perched on top of the hill overlooking the beautiful Torridge estuary and valley, on the outskirts of the historical old port and town of Bideford in North Devon.

The North Devon coastline is wild and rugged with many sandy beaches close by and crashing Atlantic waves ideal for surfing. Wildlife abounds in our hedgerows and cliffs, and there are many scenic coastal and country walks to be enjoyed.

The county town of Barnstaple is close by with many high streets stores and boutique shops along with the Pannier covered market which sells a range of items each day from antiques to fresh, local produce such as fruit and vegetables, cream and local speciality cheeses, pasties and meats.

Bideford Town Quay is famous as the South West departure point for many explorers sailing to discover America and the New World, the most notable being Captain Sir Richard Grenville who returned from America with the first North American Indian to leave the US and travel to Europe. Sir

Richard Grenville named his man-servant Rayleigh and he was the first North American Indian to be christened, the ceremony was performed in St Mary Church in 1588 and his remains are buried in the church grounds, the history of Rayleigh and the old port are to be found in the Burton Art Gallery and Museum on Bideford Quay.
